You embed with clients from discovery through production: interviewing the people who do the work today, shaping the system with them, and shipping it into their environment. Equal parts engineer and translator — you're the person clients trust because you've seen their real data and told them the truth about it.
You build the systems: document pipelines, retrieval, agents, and the evaluation harnesses that keep them honest. You've shipped and operated production software, and you treat the model as the most replaceable part of the stack — because you've watched what happens when teams don't.
Titles are approximations. If you're exceptional at something adjacent — evaluation and data work, AI strategy, technical writing that clients would pay for — make the case. The strongest people we've worked with rarely fit a listing.
